Hampshire Highways Team have visited Baughurst Road and carried our verge reinstatement in a number of locations between Manor Farm and Pound Green. The works were very carefully carried out using a large mechanical shovel to drag a substantial amount of solid earth and grass towards the edge of the road.
It is hopped that this will result in slightly reducing the road width back to a more reasonable level and furthermore it prevents the weight of the traffic from running on the extreme edges of the road surface material. Traffic continually running on the extreme edges puts additional load onto the weakest point of the road surface and causes it to breakaway and form pot holes just off of the road surface. If the pot holes are then filled with road material it has the gradual affect of slowly widening and straitening our country lanes!
Residents are delighted that Highways have completed this work. Highways management have also said that they will be returning to erect strategically placed verge markers and will be carrying out white limning works in the near future.
As agreed with Highways, local residents placed a number of information signs along the reinstated verges, unfortunately together with highways verge markers at Pound Green, the signs and posts have all been stolen, by persons unknown. It’s the busy season for our local farmers and their staff so there will be a high level of agriculture traffic around, motorist are asked to give the tractors priority and not force them to mount the verges, which considering the time of year are of course extremely wet. Tractor drivers please take care and let the reinstated verges settle!
