Philip and I attended the last Baughurst Parish Council meeting, at which Mr Peter Eade of HCC Highways (Maintenance) was in attendance. I will leave it to Philip to bring you up to date regarding the points raised on behalf of Baughurrst:Traffic Matters relating to Baughurst Road.
During the Parish Council’s agenda item ‘Highways & Rights of Way’, I am extremely pleased to pass on that some promising issues were discussed. In particular the proposed traffic calming along Wolverton Road and the long awaited need to reduce the speed limit along Heath End Road.
Wolverton Road
Members of the PC have been asking for action regarding traffic and related issues. HCC put together a proposal, which has now passed through all of its statutory requirements and is all agreed for implementation. It would seem that as soon as budget is available (unfortunately we will certainly have to wait until after April 2007) the scheme which is a combination of engineering works, road lining and speed reductions will be constructed.
As I understand it the scheme include the introduction of two sections of Wolverton Road where the maximum speed limit will be restricted to 40MPH. Section 1: Wolverton Rd from it’s junction with Baughurst Rd to the proximity of property known as ‘Sunset’. Section 2: From the proximity of the property known as Pin Lodge/ Baldwin’s Lane to St Catherine’s Church.
A long process, but thank you to the PC and the Highways Management Team.
Heath End Road
Well again a long process, with different schemes having been trialled at this location. The PC reported that HCC have advised them that the central island road markings have created slower average speeds along Heath End Road. This will help with the process of a TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) will now be put in place to authorise Hampshire Highways to make the change in the legal maximum speed from 40 MPH down to 30MPH. The TRO will include a public consultation period.
No dates or time frame has been given but it seems the long awaited 30MPH limit is on its way.
Again, many thanks to the members of PC who have been beavering away at this one for umpteen years and to Marilynn Tucker for her input, and of course thank you the Highway Management Team.
